Some insight into the mind of a self confessed shoe lover

So lately I haven't been writing very much on my blog, instead I just let the shoes do the talking. It is no secret that I have a thing about shoes. Some might say too much of a thing. I mean I do have a blog dedicated to just shoes, I have so many shoes that I don't even know how many I have (I'm guessing 100 pairs??), my summer shoes are being stored in the garage because there isn't space in my closet (once summer comes I store the winter ones!) and I have zero will power when it comes to resisting buying more shoes!

So why exactly do I love shoes you ask? Here are some reasons:

1. Shoes never make you feel fat. Who cares if you have to go up a size in shoes, they are shoes, not a skirt. Your feet didn’t grow, it is not the chips you ate last night, it is absolutely, positively, the shoes’ fault.

2. You always, always need another pair of shoes. No one can ever say you don’t. There is always an outfit, or an event you don’t have shoes for. If not, buy an outfit you don’t have shoes for or make up an event.

3. Shoe shopping always makes you feel better. Don’t believe me? Try it sometime.

4. Shoes are pretty.

5. You can buy cheap shoes. With Mr Price, Legit and Woolies, you don’t have to spend a lot to find the latest styles. If they last a season, who cares? Throw them out.

6. High heels make you look taller. And thinner...

7. Feel like you are too conservative? Just buy a pair of red heels. Wear them. Voila, you are now one hot chick! Shoes can change the whole look of an outfit in less than a minute. And the way you feel.

8. And, of course, the right shoes can make you feel like a million dollars.

And on the topic..I saw these shoes today and had, I mean had to have them. Especially since they were 50% off thanks to a sale. Forget that I have nowhere to wear them. Forget that I have nothing to wear them with. Forget that I am on a budget. Forget that I’ll probably break my neck trying to walk in them. Forget all of those things. When you have an addiction, you have an addiction and that good sense you had is thrown to the wind...

Its a sad sad day for shoe lovers across the world...

Our most beloved shoe designer has lost the copyright to his well loved red sole shoe.

A judge declined on Wednesday to grant a preliminary injunction requested by Christian Louboutin against Yves Saint Laurent, which was accused of trademark infringement for shoes that featured red soles similar to those of Louboutin’s. The decision not only cleared the way for Saint Laurent to continue producing its shoes, but also seemed to give coverage to other shoe manufacturers that may want to add a scarlet underpinning to theirs.

Judge Victor Marrero of Federal District Court in Manhattan ruled that the trademark Louboutin obtained in 2008 for its “lacquered red soles” — on shoes that can sell for more than $1,000 a pair — was “overly broad” and most likely not protectable.

“Because in the fashion industry color serves ornamental and aesthetic functions vital to robust competition,” Judge Marrero ruled, “the court finds that Louboutin is unlikely to be able to prove that its red outsole brand is entitled to trademark protection, even if it has gained enough protection in the market to have secondary meaning.”
A YSL shoe. The lawsuit was filed over four shoes in the Yves Saint Laurent Cruise 2011 collection: the Tribute, Taboo, Palais and Woodstock models.

The court seemed to want to give Mr. Louboutin his due, however, describing in great detail the impact the French designer, who has been profiled in Vanity Fair and The New Yorker, has had on fashion.
“When Hollywood starlets cross red carpets and high-fashion models strut down runways, and heads turn and eyes drop to the celebrities’ feet, lacquered red outsoles on high-heeled black shoes flaunt a glamorous statement that pops out all at once,” the ruling stated. “For those in the know, cognitive bulbs instantly flash to associate: ‘Louboutin.’ ”

But recognition aside, the court ruled that allowing Louboutin to claim that scarlet sole as its own would have been like forbidding Monet from using a specific shade of blue in his Water Lilies series because Picasso had been there first with paintings from his Blue Period.
Louboutin’s lawyer, Harley Lewin, told Agence France-Presse: “We are profoundly disappointed at the judge’s decision. We are currently evaluating all alternatives.”

Lets hope we wont be seeing thousands of red soled non-Louboutins walking the streets anytime soon :( Louboutin wouldn't be Louboutin if everyone has red soles :(
